BROTHERS IN ARMS

It's always nice to find that someone whose opinion you respect agrees with you, and that's the case when I read Jeremy Clarkson's column in The Weekend Australian magazine this week. The subject was the new Volkswagen Arteon.

Despite all the hoo-haa about Jeremy's behaviour and his much-ridiculed persona, he does know what he's talking about when it comes to cars.

I had the opportunity to meet him when the Bentley Continental GT was launched and found him very personable, well-informed and sensible.

In my own review of the Arteon I said that although it may seem like the answer to a question nobody asked, the model will find buyers ready and willing in the German domestic market - so I guess whatever VWAG invested in its creation will pay for itself - for VW's sake, I hope so.

With that huge debt around its neck paying for the Dieselgate disaster, Volkswagen Group can ill-afford speculative investments.

But, it IS a nice car.
