As I was composing my valedictory to the late Sir Stirling Moss, it occurred to me how fortunate I have been to have personal contact details in my Address Book of several F1 world champions, with whom I was able to enjoy close friendships and ongoing contact.
This collage shows the late Phil Hill driving a Bentley Continental R in 2000, on a media driving event I invited him to, in the mountains of Tennessee; Here's a photo I took in the paddock at Monaco in 1981 of the late James Hunt in discussion with Sir Frank Williams; Stirling chatting up a bird (what's new?) at Pebble Beach in 2010; and me with my good friend Alan Jones celebrating his 50th birthday party on the Queensland Gold Coast in 1996, plus a bird.
What is it with motor racing and birds?
